Discussion:
Middle-click to paste URL?

Is it just me, or did "paste an URL using middle mouse button
to go to that URL" disappear in a recent upgrade? Why?
What's the best way to enable it again?

My mouse setup calls itself "Opera Standard". I'm a bit reluctant to
edit it, and unsure if this was an intentional change or a bug about
to be fixed.

Not that I'm aware of.
I just highlighted a URL in another application (xchat), did an open
new tab (opera), clicked on the address bar, then pasted using middle
button - all worked just fine. Is this what you say isn't working?

My Mouse setup is 'Opera Standard' and my Keyboard setup is 'Opera Standard'

Middle-click options are:

Action:
Paste text from clipboard

Link action:
Open in backround tab

Version 12.11
Build 1661
Platform Linux
System x86_64, 2.6.38.8-desktop-10.mga

No. Sorry -- I was unclear. It's middle-click anywhere (except on a
text edit field) in a web page I'm after, rather than into the address
bar. The same feature is available in Firefox, and I've come to rely
on it.

Also: now when I try it again it works! I'm sure I had the problem
earlier this weekend, but it must have been some kind of glitch in
Opera or (just as likely) the rest of my Linux environment.

Sorry!

It's slightly possible that you copied the text from an application
that uses one of the other cut buffers not understood by Opera.
Emacs, x11vnc and a few others seem slightly incompatible with
browsers and I sometimes have to use xterm as an intermediary.

Just *slightly* possible -- I know pretty well how my applications at
home behave.

But I see what you describe with VNC on Windows -- usually cut&paste
X11->Windows works well, but once or twice a week I have to do
intermediary pastes or try several times.

I read abiut that in the Opera blogs, but I can't confirm a problem with
middle clicks. Just the same behaviour as before.

Actually, now I see what you're talking about. Unfortunately, I
upgraded too many things at once - a kernel from 3.5 to 3.6, opera
from 12.02.1578 to 12.12.1707 and possibly some X stuff (although I
don't think so).
